The 9th annual Durban Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (#DGLFF2019) takes place from Friday 27 September to Sunday 6 October 2019, at the Onomo Hotel Durban, North Beach. 50 titles from across the world will provide for a scintillating queer cinema experience! With a diversity of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer stories made by independent filmmakers from every continent, this year’s DGLFF will again inspire, provoke thought and dialogue, and provide extraordinary resonance with lovers of film. You can DOWNLOAD THE 2019 PROGRAMME HERE Our Friday 27 Sept Opening Night Film is ‘OCTAVIO IS DEAD’, a magnificent piece of queer filmmaking from Canadian director Sook-Yin Lee that débuted in 2018. Tyler (Alias Grace’s mesmerizing Sarah Gadon) is unemployed and unsettled after learning that her father, a man she’s never met, has died and left her everything, including an apartment cluttered with the detritus of a complicated life. Her mother Joan, played by the legendary Rosanna Arquette, doesn’t even want to talk about it. Impulsively deciding to explore her father’s stomping grounds before the apartment is sold, Tyler’s curiosity about her father slowly evolves into a sensual exploration of her own identity and desires. When a handsome young man finds Tyler attractive, she learns he may be more connected with the past that she reckoned with… Incredible performances from an excellent cast that includes hunky newcomer Dimitris Kitsos, allows Lee to produce the seemingly impossible: a sexy and thoughtful queer film that appeals to women and men and to those who like their gender bent. Opening Night Film Friday 27 September 2019 20:00 (including opening function starting 19h00) Tickets @ R90 each ~~ Email bookings@dglff.org.za ~~ or WhatsApp/Telegram: +27781895430
